FCRA ( Foreign Contribution Regulation Act) Validity Extended to September 30, 2025:

Key Updates for NGOs

The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs has extended the validity of FCRA registration certificates for certain NGOs and non-profit organizations until September 30, 2025, or until their renewal application is processed, whichever occurs first.

This extension applies to two groups of organizations :

Entities with pending renewal applications:

Those whose FCRA registration already had an extended expiry of June 30, 2025, and have submitted renewal applications, now enjoy extended validity until September 30, 2025, or the decision date, whichever comes first.

Entities with expiring registration terms:

Those whose 5-year registration term expires between July 1, 2025, and September 30, 2025, and who submit a renewal application before that expiry date, also receive automatic extension up to September 30, 2025, or until their application is decided.

Key Implications:

Continued operations: NGOs can continue lawful operations, including receiving and utilizing foreign funds during the interim period.

Flexibility: The extension offers more flexibility to complete procedural renewal steps amid administrative delays.

Prevention of disruptions: It helps prevent disruptions in field activities, critical for NGOs serving vulnerable communities.

Recommended Actions for NGOs

Timely submission: Ensure timely submission of renewal applications well before expiry dates.

Track renewal status: Actively track renewal status to avoid surprises at the end of the extended period.

Cease transactions: In case of rejection, cease FCRA-related transactions immediately to avoid violations .

Important Notes

Validity extension limit: Validity is extended only up to September 30, 2025, irrespective of when the application is finally processed.

Rejection consequences: If a renewal application is rejected, the registration immediately lapses on the date of refusal, and the organization cannot receive or utilize foreign contributions post that date.
